In 2010, when I was choosing a name for my new recruitment company, I asked myself the following questions: What am I setting out to achieve? Why am I leaving a job and team I love so much to set up a company on my own? What difference do I want to make?
The answer was simple: there were too many people wasting their working lives in roles that made them unhappy, working for companies that made them unhappy – and this made me unhappy.
I wanted to help.
So, I Love My Job was born.
From day one, I not only wanted to help people find work, but I wanted those jobs to be ones that would positively impact their lives and enable them to say, “I Love My Job”. I wanted to help this become the norm, not just a privilege for a chosen few.
In 2018, I stumbled upon a game-changer: B Corp. It was like finding the missing puzzle piece that completed the picture of ILMJ’s purpose. And by 2021, we proudly waved the B Corp certification flag high, boasting a score of 90.5.
Choosing to embrace the B Corp movement was a turning point for I Love My Job. It became our guiding star, taking our mission to new heights.
Here’s an overview of where we are now and what we are focussed on achieving over the next 12 months.
I hope it helps to further demonstrate ILMJ’s mission, impact and what drives us all to do what we do.
Thank you,
Louisa Mordaunt

And we are on a mission to change that! 🔥
That’s why we’ve made it our purpose to challenge the status quo & the way we work.
In an industry that is notoriously money-driven, I Love My Job is proud to be one of the first ten recruitment agencies in the UK to become a Certified B Corporation. Joining a community of 1800+ UK companies who are collectively using their businesses as a force for good, ILMJ’s commitment to making a positive impact on our society and environment is official, legal and verified.
As a company that has always been guided by doing the right thing, I Love My Job’s Founder, Louisa, wanted to share how she successfully balances purpose with profit with the hope to inspire new companies to do the same
Why do you think becoming B Corp means so much to you and the team at I Love My Job?:
LM: More often than not, companies measure success by the money they make, the growth they have, and how many people work for them.
In recruitment, you are usually deemed a good recruiter if you have high billings – but for me, this is not success. To me, success in business is about creating the perfect balance between the positive impact that you make and the profit you generate. It’s about being fair, loving what you do, and doing the right thing.
The difference with the B Corp Certification is that it takes the positive impact that you are making on people and the planet into account when measuring success. That’s why it means so much to me. I’m so proud to be part of this community of businesses coming together to ensure positive change happens. It’s our duty.
How did going through the B Corp Certification help you expand the positive impact that you are making?
LM: Positive impact has always been our north star. I set up I Love My Job to make genuine positive change to people’s lives. I felt that there were too many people in jobs that made them unhappy, working for companies that made them unhappy, and this made me unhappy. I wanted to help fix this. If I could help people say, “I love my job” and earn a living at the same time, then I was doing a good job.
Being a B Corp encourages you to carefully examine every part of your company, keeping in mind the positive influence you have on people, the community, and the planet. We prioritise these impacts in every decision we make.
I Love My Job is proud to be operating differently in the recruitment industry. Can you break down some of the ways that we are re-defining standards?
LM: Yes of course, here are some of the main ways that we are operating differently:
We have a People + Culture Manager who leads the way in ensuring our practices embrace, improve and protect I Love My Jobs culture, company and team.
We have a Brand + Impact manager to ensure that ILMJ is making the most positive social and environmental impact possible, both on an individual and company level.
We measure internal success differently to most companies. ILMJ has always worked to a group revenue target, but this metric alone is not sufficient anymore. We now have targets connected to the number of people that we place in jobs they love, satisfaction of candidates/clients, our culture. Only when we are hitting all these targets do we know that we are doing a good job!
We verify and measure the positive impact that we make to people’s lives through I Love My Job’s Positive Impact Verification tool.
Our six company values (re-defining standards being one of them!) are considered in every company decision we make, every process we introduce, and all performances we review.
We have an active online community of people on our socials, sharing content, opinions, and blog posts tackling social issues that are close to our hearts.
Our mission extends beyond the office walls, as we understand that when people love their jobs, they experience greater happiness, reduced stress levels, and improved mental well-being overall.
We match candidates and companies not just based on experience but on value and culture alignment.
We are committed to making a positive difference in the world of work. That’s why we have introduced the Positive Impact Verification (PIV) process, a short survey that confirms if our candidate’s new jobs positively impacted their lives.
To further our commitment to using our business as a force for good, starting from December 2023, we’re asking all clients to provide I Love My Job (ILMJ) with their updated Employer Net Promoter Score (eNPS) on an annual basis. For clients who haven’t calculated their eNPS within the past 12 months, we’re pleased to offer this service at no additional cost.
In addition to the eNPS, clients have the option to provide us with two internal employee references. This alternative method allows us to ensure and support ILMJ’s positive impact alignment for our candidates and professional partnerships. We firmly believe in transparency and empowering individuals to make well-informed career decisions. These measures help us foster trust and ensure the best possible match between candidates and organisations.

Nothing really – shorter commute? Not much I can do about that!
EMPLOYEE REFERENCE #2:

Really fun company to work for and the 4 day week is a really good perk. Whatever department you’re in, you get to be involved with game testing and development, so it really helps you understand the product and see the full design process.
They are the heartbeat of ILMJ and their growth and well-being are at the core of our mission. Through ongoing training, development programs, and a supportive work environment, we empower our team to reach their full potential. By nurturing our employees’ skills, passions, and aspirations, we not only create a positive workplace culture but also ensure exceptional service and outcomes for our clients and candidates.
They were the first to test-drive our newly improved onboarding process and provide valuable feedback. We put emphasis on not rushing this part, and embrace the balance of mentoring/shadowing alongside learning on the job. We have a solid structured training process covering all business areas; from our why to our brand identity and most importantly how we create a positive impact, including the ins and outs of the everyday job and to the wider industry.
Which means at some point you will have 1-on-1 time with everyone in the business. This is done collaboratively so that there is an opportunity to voice feedback, suggest improvements or further contributions along the way. Whilst the onboarding structure and programme looks the same for everyone, its completion and progression will vary from one person to the other, we don’t make it a requirement that you need recruitment experience to join us so we adapt each stage to suit individual needs!
We appointed our first People + Culture Manager through internal progression Charlotte joined the company in 2019 and developed her HR knowledge through a Level 3 CIPD-accredited qualification, in Human resources, which was funded by I Love My Job.
Ash’s journey with I Love My Job has been nothing short of extraordinary. In just one year, she has emerged as a true powerhouse, embodying the spirit of ILMJ. Through her exceptional performance and unwavering determination, Ash has earned two well-deserved promotions and a significant 20% salary increase.
We rolled out a couple of new well-being incentives, in addition to our generous holiday allowance, including 2x well-being days which can be taken at short notice – no questions asked and 1x memory day per year which is a paid day off to create memories with your family/friends (or just yourself) which I Love My Job gifts £100 towards!
We refreshed our approach to our biweekly, quarterly and yearly reviews and ensure all company and individual goals align and feed into our core values. These are tracked collaboratively through informal bi-weekly 1-2-1s and then reviewed more formally at the end of the quarter and end of the year. We gain valuable feedback by asking individuals to mark their satisfaction and fulfilment against their goals and as a result against our company values.
Following internal feedback we made wellbeing check-ins more accessible, currently, we have an off-site 1-2-1 wellbeing catch-up every 6 months to discuss how the year has been so far in relation to work, individual wellbeing and any concerns or struggles. In order to provide the opportunity for spontaneous conversations Tuesday and Friday afternoons are allocated for wellbeing chats with Charlotte, our People + Culture Manager. In cases where it’s more serious or it can’t wait, we’re always on hand as and when it’s needed. However, these slots are available if you fancy a catch-up or have an area you would like to address and work towards.
Charlotte completed a level 2 qualification in understanding mental health first aid, and mental health advocacy in the workplace.
This will help us to identify struggles within our team and support them so that we can promote a healthy, open and safe culture of care.
All salaries within the company exceed the statutory minimum wage and national living wage and are proudly benchmarked according to the Real Living Wage (in London) which is set by the Living Wage Foundation, a dedicated organisation working to close the gap on fair pay and the cost of living. We worked on updating all internal job specifications, so they are now values lead and clearly lay out how responsibilities tie into our company’s core values.
We also created clear bandings for the roles and progression within the Recruitment team, this is accessible to the whole company and sets out each level within recruitment, the responsibilities attached to that level, and what would be required at the next level, as well as the salary and commission structure.
I Love My Job has a formal culture review every 12 months, using our sister company HappyHQ! In our last review, we scored an amazing 37.67 out of 40! With our highest scoring areas (100%) across Connection, Wellbeing and Empowerment. Communication, Purpose & Values and Belonging all followed closely behind. We found Appreciation and Leadership, although still high scoring, the two main areas for us to focus on and improve on upon.
A couple of new initiatives we put in place to support this is our Values RECognition board, where we shout out actions and people in the team who showcase our company values in every day as well as going above and beyond.
We also reviewed our company meetings to make them work in the best way they can for the team – this meant introducing 2x weekly recruitment-focused meetings within the REC team, to provide the time and focus on current and prospective workings and then bi-weekly 1-2-1’s to discuss workings on an individual level.

Introducing our latest project: “Let’s Ask People.” We hit the streets to have real conversations with everyday individuals about their jobs and what brings them joy at work. This initiative is all about uncovering the reasons why the majority of UK workers don’t love what they do and, and more importantly, inspiring and educating both individuals and companies on what truly matters in a job, career, and workplace
Through “Let’s Ask People,” we aim to shed light on the diverse aspirations and priorities of individuals in their professional lives. By listening to their stories and experiences, we gain valuable insights into what people are truly seeking in their work.

We firmly believe that the key to helping people love what they do lies in understanding their unique desires and aspirations.
