Assistant Accountant, iconic brand

We are working with an iconic British brand that trades globally and are known for some of the UK’s best-loved products. This company is thriving and due to company expansion are looking for a new Assistant Accountant to join their finance team.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will be involved in all aspects of the Accounts Payable and Receivable, including reconciliations of ledgers. You will also be involved in the quarterly and annual returns / reports of both management and financial accounts. You will also be involved in the VAT returns and wider company projects.

You will have 2 years accounting experience, ideally supported by a finance / accounting degree. You may have started your AAT, ACCA or CIMA qualifications and may be given study support if you wish to continue with this.

As Assistant Accountant you will:

  • Work closely with the Head of Finance (HoF) in support of achieving key objectives
  • Produce regular balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with the annual budget process
  • Work with cost centre managers to effectively track actual spend vs budget
  • Aid in compiling and reporting monthly sales and quarterly management reports
  • Statutory reporting to HMRC and other bodies (VAT, ECSL, Intrastat) when required
  • Maintain effective credit control, obtain credit insurance, and help pursue overdue debt
  • Complete quarterly licensor royalty statements and maintain the royalty database
  • Preparing payments
  • Under HoF-supervision, lead preparations for the audit and liaise with auditors
  • Providing necessary cover during the Head of Finance’s and Accounts Assistant’s leave
  • Occasional filing / archiving and other ad hoc accounting duties

Knowledge and experience:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in accounting / book-keeping functions or graduate-equivalent
  • Highly numerate (proficient in maths)
  • Understanding of the importance of timely period-closing and meeting reporting deadlines
  • Experience of dealing with customers, suppliers, and other business partners
  • Good computer skills and particularly Excel; preferably with experience of accounting systems
  • Familiarity with foreign currency is welcome though not essential
