Product Technologist, lifestyle company, Maternity cover PT

We are working with a leading gift and games company who create products for retailers both in the UK and around the world. Their impressive client list includes high street favourites such as John Lewis, Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencers.

They are looking for an experienced part-time Technologist to cover Maternity Leave, this will be a guaranteed 9-month position but may be extended to a year.  Ideally with experience in toys, gifts or hard lines, you will be responsible for ensuring product compliance, factory audits, and liaising with key accounts to approve private label lines.

Please note: Part time 22.5 hours per week, up to £26,500 pro rata

Your role as Technologist will include:

  • Ensuring all product complies with current regulations and retailers’ requirements
  • Monitoring the suppliers Ethical and QMS audit processes, ensuring that processes are efficient and up to date
  • Upkeeping the compliance database, ensuing it is accurate and up-to-date at all times
  • Researching and identifying relevant compliance approval procedures for new factories as instructed by the Product Development Director
  • Ensuring traceability of all components is evidenced and documented in accordance with retailer requirements and legal regulations
  • Liaising with the product team, ensuring all product technical issues are addressed throughout the development process, and are in line with the critical path
  • Attending and minuting technical meetings with both retailers and internally
  • Managing the testing process of new products and re-testing of existing lines as required, ensuring that the relevant testing is carried out in a timely, cost effective manner
  • Ensuring that all information is accurate prior to final sign off stage, including any labelling requirements
  • Arranging pre-shipment inspections as required

 The successful Technologist will have the following experience/skills:

  • 2+ years’ experience working in a similar role within a wholesale environment
  • Good understanding of Supplier Compliance, Product Compliance and Quality Control
  • A good understanding of how an import business works across the supply chain
  • The ability to manage a number of different tasks at once and to be able to monitor and control multiple product test results and schedules
  • A proactive, can-do attitude and a flexible approach
  • Deadline driven with impeccable organisation skills
  • A great communicator and a natural people person
  • Ability to act on initiative & solve problems quickly and calmly
  • A positive and upbeat personality, and a team player who puts the good of the company first!
