Product Technologist, home & lifestyle

  • Up to £50,000
  • London

We’re looking for a Product Technologist to join a fast-growing, design-led home & lifestyle brand, supporting the safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery of products across a wide and varied global range. This is a newly created role within the Product Development team, offering real ownership and visibility across the business.

In this hands-on position, you’ll take responsibility for managing product testing, compliance documentation, and regulatory requirements across multiple product categories and international markets. Working closely with product development, production, suppliers, and external testing partners, you’ll ensure products meet global regulatory standards, retailer requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.

This role is ideal for a detail-driven compliance professional who enjoys working at pace, improving processes, and partnering cross-functionally to manage risk and uphold product integrity.

Key responsibilities:

Product Testing Management

  • Oversee and manage testing for all products, working with global suppliers and preferred testing partners
  • Ensure all products meet required regulatory standards, including high-risk categories (e.g., food contact, homeware)
  • Support in-house testing where possible (e.g., candle burn tests) and maintain accurate internal records
  • Maintain precise and up-to-date testing documentation for internal and external stakeholders

Compliance Management

  • Review product packaging and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Lead implementation of regulatory updates such as EUDR and support suppliers in gathering required data
  • Maintain internal technical files, ensuring clarity, completeness, and accessibility
  • Drive improvements in compliance processes and workflows across the business
  • Conduct product-level quality assessments and lead LQA development for new items

Regulatory Updates & Reporting

  • Monitor global regulatory changes (UK, EU, USA) and advise internal teams
  • Educate Product Development, Production, and wider teams on relevant compliance updates
  • Gather and report compliance data to third-party regulatory bodies as required

Risk Management & Quality Assurance

  • Conduct risk assessments for products, documenting findings and flagging potential issues early
  • Work with internal teams and suppliers to resolve quality concerns, returns, and corrective actions
  • Review samples, provide feedback, and produce clear reports for stakeholders
  • Support customer service where compliance-related issues or complaints arise

Testing Portals & Data Management

  • Update internal and customer portals with compliance documentation
  • Maintain accurate, organised, and accessible records across all product categories

What We’re Looking For:

  • Ideally 3+ years’ experience within a similar role
  • Knowledge of global product standards (UK, EU, USA) across multiple product categories, ideally including high-risk categories
  • Experience working with, or for, major retailers and understanding their compliance and testing requirements
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Diversity & Inclusion: ILMJ values diversity, equality and inclusion and encourages applicants from all backgrounds and identities.
