Buying Manager – Furniture

Berkshire  |  Up to £65,000 DOE

We’re recruiting on behalf of a design-led furniture brand who need an experienced Buying Manager to take ownership of their product range and turn strong ideas into strong sales.

It’s a role that sits right at the intersection of creative and commercial – one week you’ll be scouting the next design trend or sourcing a new supplier, the next you’ll be knee-deep in the numbers making sure every line in the range hits its target. You’ll lead the product strategy from first concept through to launch, working closely with Merchandising, Supply Chain and your own Buying team.

Why you’ll love this job

This newly created role comes with real scope to shape how it develops – and the chance to leave your mark on a successful brand’s product story. If you’d relish combining creative input with genuine commercial ownership, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the product range from first concept through supplier selection to launch, with full ownership of the critical path
  • Spotting design trends early and turning them into exclusive, commercially-led collections
  • Planning the range at SKU level in partnership with Merchandising, working to an agreed budget
  • Growing category margin and profitability by working closely with designers and suppliers
  • Reviewing supplier performance – cost, quality, delivery and responsible sourcing – and holding standards high
  • Leading technical and quality sign-off to make sure every product meets UK safety and compliance requirements
  • Balancing availability, lead times and stock efficiency alongside Merchandising and Supply Chain
  • Analysing sales data to find opportunities, strengths and gaps across the range
  • Travelling to trade shows, suppliers and factories across the UK, Europe and the Far East
  • Developing and mentoring your team

What you’ll bring

  • Senior-level buying experience gained within a retailer, B2B business, or similar commercial environment within the furniture category
  • A background spanning both hardline and upholstered furniture, with a track record of combining creative flair and commercial results
  • Confident negotiation skills and an instinct for what’s coming next in design
  • Strong analytical ability – comfortable getting into the detail behind the numbers
  • The adaptability and energy to thrive in a fast-paced, growing business
  • A collaborative, confident communicator who builds strong relationships internally and externally

 Diversity & Inclusion

ILMJ values diversity, equality and inclusion and encourages applicants from all backgrounds and identities.
